A German Shepherd can be a great family dog. If socialized from an early age he can be great with children and other pets. They make great guard dogs too but you have to make sure you buy these dogs from good breeders. The German Shepherd is one of the most intelligent dog breeds in the world. They are used by police, and are also used as guide dogs for the blind.
Grooming :
The coat should be brushed once or twice a week unless dog hair in the home is a problem which then a quick daily brushing is suggested. Bathing should happen only when needed to avoid the depletion of essential skin oils.
Exercise :
The German Shepherd is a working dog that requires daily vigorous exercise. They must have physical and mental stimulation to keep happy. They make excellent jogging companions.
