Temperament :
The Red and White can take longer to train than other gundogs, but once trained it is a loyal and reliable companion. Like the Irish Setter, the breed has an enthusiastic zest for life, loves to play, and is excellent with children. Irish Red and White Setters thrive best in active families and require room to romp.
Grooming :
The Irish Red and White Setter is an average shedder with a soft, flat coat of medium length. This dog should be brushed regularly to prevent tangles, and extra attention is usually required during the shedding seasons. Baths or dry shampoos should be given only when needed.
Exercise :
Daily strenuous exercise is a must for this breed. This can include games and running free in a fenced yard or out in the country. A lack of exercise can result in restlessness and frustration in the Irish setter, and it may be more difficult to train.

Around 11-15 years
